Circus Nightmare
by Bethany Baker
Look in the mirror
and cover your face
Cake on the make-up
you are a disgrace
The mask still smiles
when you want to frown
Conceal your emotions
you sad little clown
Countless insecurities
they make your bones shake
Quick, make a joke
don’t let them see you break
The pantomime you perform
just to fit in
Always waiting for approval
and searching for a grin
Don’t get your hopes up
set the bar low
You’ll never conform
perhaps you should go
Hang the rope
and hang it high
Like an aerial silk dancer
twirling in the sky
Take off your mask
and show them your frown
You can let it all go now
you sad little clown
and cover your face
Cake on the make-up
you are a disgrace
The mask still smiles
when you want to frown
Conceal your emotions
you sad little clown
Countless insecurities
they make your bones shake
Quick, make a joke
don’t let them see you break
The pantomime you perform
just to fit in
Always waiting for approval
and searching for a grin
Don’t get your hopes up
set the bar low
You’ll never conform
perhaps you should go
Hang the rope
and hang it high
Like an aerial silk dancer
twirling in the sky
Take off your mask
and show them your frown
You can let it all go now
you sad little clown
