Life's Circus
By Kaden Hurley
You’d done it,
taken the last step
off the jeering metal wire -
which slowly ceased its trembles
as memory of potential failure
faded away with the deafening noise
of the enthralled, cheering audience.
You’d practiced until your balancing staff
had worn away under the pressure
of your clenched, sweaty fingers
and, falling into the protective net,
pulled tight between the two poles,
no longer stung.
But today you had done it -
no falls -
You had found success
because today you became
better than yesterday.
