The Society

Abstract:
These journal entries are from project 476. The subject in question is referred to as Milton for the duration of the experiment. Milton is one of the Society’s prisoners of war, from the war against the weak mankind. The Society was able to deprogram his memory and adjust it to the setting that was necessary for the experiment. The officiator of this project, is the society’s most esteemed leader: Cornelius Everstein. Mr. Everstein requested for the documents to remain in the order that the human left them, in order to more effectively analyze this being. The purpose of this experiment was to test the mental, emotional, and physical capabilities and mannerisms of man. This test was to reaffirm the Society's plan to terminate all of mankind. The results of this test will indicate if any adjustments need to be made to minds or structures of the members of the Society and it will also display the weaknesses of the Society’s opponents. The environment of the test subject is controlled and monitored. Food is provided to Mr. Everstein in increments so as to not to tip off the man to our presence.

Her blonde hair was singed from the golden flame. Her porcelain skin simmered in the fire. Her eyes bubbled from the intensive heat. The fire was difficult to create because of the scarce amount of wood and flint left in the community. She seemed so pure and innocent. I thought she was like me. This is the last time I will be documenting my feelings. I have nothing left to live for, so I shall go now. These documents of my humanity will be burned, it makes me sick to look back on my idiocy.

I am twelve years old. Cornelius tells me that I am different from the others that we watch walking above us. I am supposed to be very quiet. He wants me to write down all of my thoughts, because they are amongst the few things that are still mine. Cornelius has been with me my entire life, but he is not my father. He always talks about my parents, so I never forget them. They were killed because they would not consent to be turned. Cornelius says that the society has modified human DNA. This change causes man to never die and to rely on the Society to think. The new forms of man are not made of organs or skin. They are also not made of metal, so they will never rust. These new forms are indestructible because the forms are impenetrable, do not require food, water, and oxygen which were key factors that used to separate life forms from inanimate objects. At first this information was used to help the elderly, sick, dying, and deformed. However, as they tried to expand this new technology to people before the effects of the world impacted them, force and power went to the heads’ of the leaders of the society. The Society can now control every part of one’s life. They do not even wear clothes, in the natural sense that I have been accustomed to; their bodies are just created to appear as if they were wearing clothes. The worst thing that I have learned about these new forms is that they do not have feelings. their thought process is equal to a psychopath in which everything they do is for the benefit of the Society because they share the same needs and desires. These new creatures do not have a personality or sense of self.

It is my 18th birthday. Cornelius says that is a very important milestone in a man’s life. I know I am supposed to be thinking about myself today but I am so consumed with the well being of Clara. Clara is this beautiful woman. She is an actual person. She lives in the Society. I have analyzed her every move, she has to be human posing as one of them. Cornelius tells me that when he lived above, he heard of a human who was able to bargain his brain in order for his daughter to live in the Society untouched, protected, and cared for. He says that this man was a genius, and his brain was invaluable to the research that the Society conducted. I know that this is the girl. She wore the same type of cloth like material as the others but it was slightly different because it did not seem ingrained into her system. I’ve also witnessed her taking small breaths and pumping blood to her body systems in an incredibly stealthy manner. It took me months to notice these elements of her. Plus, she displays human characteristics of empathy and compassion. She is incredibly kind and endearing to all, which lately she has been trying to hide because it caused too much attention amongst the other members of the Society. She is a silent outcast. I watch her hide her drawings and diary that display her creative humanity. How I just want to talk to her. I dream about the feeling of her human skin. Cornelius forces me to make a wish every year on this day. Since the day I saw her, my wish remained constant, because besides survival there is nothing else to strive for in this empty life I lead.

All of my plans are complete. I am going to talk to Clara. I am going to sneak out tomorrow night at 9:30 when almost all of the members are out working. Except for Clara, because she is always drawing in her sketch book at this time. It is also the perfect time because Cornelius always leaves the sewers at this time to scavenge for food. Even in my 40s I hold this dream of being in the same room as Clara to finally breathe the same air that she can also breathes too.

Everything has gone horribly horribly awry. She was frightened and tried to stab me. I deflected the sharp object and it flew straight into her jugular. It sliced her carotid artery and her life fled before my very eyes. I witnessed her last breath. My curse that I wished for year after year, of her touch, was granted. I had to dispose of her body. Through my tears a decision flew through. I knew that I would have to burn her.
Conclusion:
After the subject thought he killed the closest thing he knew to be, what humans refer to as “love”, our member that the Society “named” Clara, he started to burn his entries. The control center immediately engaged “her” fire extinguisher to halt the flames. Clara was able to simulate a scene of violence and burning, even though her actual form was untouched. She is a very advanced prototype that will be used in the next phase of the war against humans. This new member should be the last phase of the war. Once the subject registered what was occurring he ran away from the depleting fire. The control center tracked the subject. After 476 was captured by Mr. Everstein, in his pure form, Milton was put under anesthesia and was then transported to the laboratory. After that he was hooked up to the monitors so that the scientists could oversee his brain waves, thoughts, heart rate, breathing pattern, and other necessary functions. The scientists removed elements such as food, water, and oxygen at different times and increments to test the reactions of the human body. These results were recorded and put into the laboratory files.
Then a scientist entered the room, and told the subject everything about the experiment and his past life. The results, of this part of the experiment were the most intriguing, because his heart started to slow and his oxygen intake dropped dramatically after his anger elevated to an amount that caused his body to turn on itself. His thoughts were off the charts, however the Society’s technology is very efficient and was able to record and immediately file these actions. Systems of this weak being started to shut down. His last words consisted of rambling nonsense including “The promise of a love of a human woman, was the only thing that kept me going. Then I find out that my best and only friend and father figure turned out to be the creator of empty miserable life. I could have lived a normal happy life as a human with others of my kind but instead I was tested on. What you have made is not special or different. The only motive you have is shared with the Humans, which is power. As it has affected humans in past history, it has affected you. The Society is flawed in its own nature.”
This “emotional trauma” as the subject put it ended his life. So the results of this test were very effective because the Society learned to target the emotional part of the human beings. His body will be discarded. The data will be sent to Mr. Everstein in 3… 2… 1.
